It’s been 12 days since my last post. I’d like to be able to make more frequent posts, but with only 1 project/site right now and waiting for things to happen such as rankings and doing some link building there wasn’t much to write about. Once I get things going, such as other sites and different types of projects there will be a lot more to write about. Anyway, there is some good news. I’m finally seeing some rankings in Google! More about that below…
On October 16th, it was my first day off from my full time job. I work a 7/7 shift which means I work 7 days straight and then I get 7 days off (unless I do overtime) so I needed to do some link building to get things moving. While I was at work the week before, I discovered an SEO Blog called “Backlinko” by Brian Dean, who seems to be an excellent SEO. I read a few of his articles to get some good ideas on how to approach my link building strategy and I spent some time searching for high PR sites where I could try and leave a link. I’d like to say I spent a ton of time on it but my friend got me hooked on a PlayStation game called Grand Theft Auto 5! I’m sure some of you younger people know what I mean! Either way I only wanted a few links to see how or if it affected my rankings. I managed to get 4-5 links on sites with good PR like PR 5 , 6, and 7 but the only really relevant link that was related to my niche was a PR 3 blog comment. I’m taking more of a slower, experimental approach to this first site. I am having a problem finding sites to get a backlink on that are actually relevant to my niche. Once I finish this one, am successful and figure most things out I will be much quicker in scaling up my online niche site business.
Above is a screenshot of some of my keywords in my rank tracker (the one I use is SerpFox). Some of those keywords are the same, because I’m tracking for Canada and US so they are separate. I only started seeing rankings about 2 days ago and built the first links 7 days ago. I’m VERY happy to start seeing some rankings in Google, because I knew it was a lower competition keyword and I actually thought I would start seeing my keywords rank without any backlinks at all. I researched it though and according to what I’ve read and had a popular SEO Expert tell me, even if a keyword is REALLY low competition, sometimes it takes a few backlinks for Google to start ranking you.
So right now I am going to see where my keyword rankings settle, because they are currently changing a lot and dancing around in the SERP’s. If they settle and are not ranking well enough I will try to get some more good backlinks. I will probably try and get a few more links just to have my anchor text for my keywords in that sweet spot, which according to the studies I’ve seen is around 35%. I hope those of you following are doing well with your projects also. Keep checking back to see my progress and leave a comment! Good luck.
